The Duo "Contrasti", founded in 1994, is constituted by Diana Tzonkova-Violin and Ercole De Conca-Doublebass, members of the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa. The duo can perform with or without an accompaniment of piano or orchestra. The name of the Duo underlines the extreme differences in size (imagine the shock of seeing at the same time a small sized instrument like the Violine and a proportionally gigantic one like the Doublebass) and in voice (the high and penetrating sound of the Violine opposit to the deep and involving one of the Doublebass). All this contrasts dissolve in the fusion of the two voices and in the creation of that unique sonority wich only the combinetion of such a different instruments could create.
Press …….Romantisme et espiéglerie caractérisaient le Concerto de Bottesini (émule de Paganini) pour violon et contrebasse. Le contraste entre le deux extrêmes de la famille des instruments á cordes a séduit le public, qui a réservé une ovation debout aux solistes pour qui l’oeuvre semblait faite sur mesure, la violoniste bulgare Diana Tzonkova et le bassiste italien Ercole De Conca.
