La resa dei files midi varia quindi molto a seconda del sintetizzatore del computer che lo riproduce
I midi, non memorizzando suoni sono molto più leggeri in memoria rispetto ad altri file audio e quindi sono adatti per essere usati su internet
I file midi possono anche essere karaoke (file.kar) quando oltre agli strumenti e alle note memorizzano anche il testo di una canzone
