The Sassi

The Sassi  are two ancient areas made in two big valleys. Their peculiarity and their rupestral architecture lead the turist through evocative dwellings, completely dug in the rock (cave - dwellings). The old districts are called Barisano and Caveoso; from 1993 are numbered in the sites under the patronage of UNESCO. Today attempts are being made to bring the old districts to life again with plans to restore premises which will be assigned for houses, shops and cultural activities.
