I have discovered an interesting thing: my first AMIGA 1200 was one of the first COMMODORE AMIGA 1200; when unfortunately it went under repair, there was to replace the internal diskettes driver; I suggested at the repair centre to install a MICRONIK diskettes driver, that can read and write the high density diskettes.
A standard AMIGA 1200 can read/write double density diskettes only, that are the ones with a single hole; instead installing the MICRONIK diskettes driver I will be able to read/write the doubled capacity diskettes than the double density ones, that are the high density diskettes and have two holes.
Tramarin Computer that sold the MICRONIK diskettes driver has told me that the high density diskettes driver that I was going to buy was not compatible with the AMIGA 1200 from AMIGA TECHNOLOGIES, the phoenix born from the ashes of COMMODORE; so my AMIGA 1200 was compatible with the high density diskettes driver.
So it was done, and for a while I have no more problems; but after a certain time, my AMIGA 1200 COMMODORE needed repairs and I have decided to make repaired no more and instead to buy a new AMIGA 1200; on 19th July 2001 I have picked up from New Video a new AMIGA 1200 from AMIGA TECHNOLOGIES, where they have been installed the hard disk and the diskettes driver (the high density one) of my old AMIGA 1200 COMMODORE.
The only bad thing was the appearing of the incompatibility of the high density diskettes driver with the new AMIGA 1200, that was though the diskettes driver worked perfectly, it didn't sign its activity turning on the related LED.
Now my AMIGA 1200 from AMIGA TECHNOLOGIES sometimes it stops working and it don't want to work: after this I open the AMIGA 1200, I touch a bit here and a bit there, I close the AMIGA 1200 and, mistetiously it works!
Today is 3rd december 2002 and the last week it has happened again that my AMIGA 1200 refused to work; after opening it, I have, for an erroneous hand movement, I have slipped the connectors of the three LEDs of activity of my AMIGA 1200; I have reconnected them as I think they was originally, but, after having closed my AMIGA 1200 and having reconnected everything, the three LEDs didn't light yet; After this an idea has come , that was to see how the three LEDs were connected their wires on my old COMMODORE AMIGA 1200, by now unused and banished in a big drawer; I have connected the wires of the trhee LEDs of the AMIGA TECHNOLOGIES AMIGA 1200 as I have seen they were connected on the COMMODORE AMIGA 1200, I have turned on the new AMIGA 1200 but the power on green LED was always off.
Then I have thought: now a wire is broken; so I have decided to connect my COMMODORE AMIGA 1200 LEDs on the AMIGA TECHNOLOGIES AMIGA 1200 and so, wonder of wonders, the diskette activity LED was active: in practice the incompatibility was only at the LEDs level!
So, if you have installed a MICRONIK high density diskettes driver on an AMIGA 1200 from AMIGA TECHNOLOGIES and the related LED don't want to light, know that if you have a no more used COMMODORE AMIGA 1200, you can exchange the LEDs of the two AMIGAs and see the diskettes driver related LED light!
