On 15th march 2001 I have purchased an ACER ASPIRE AS668F PC and I have installed on it Amiga Forever: now, with WinUAE, I have in practice a new AMIGA with true colour graphic card (I have choosen a resolution of 800 per 600 points, but greater resolutions can be reached), 8 Megs of chip ram and 64 Megs of fast ram!
From the WinUAE version number 0.8.21 release 2, all the best sound cards for PC and MAC are supported via AHI; AHI (Audio Hardware Interface) is a freeware program to manage sound cards for the AMIGA: from this version of WinUAE a driver comes to permit to your PC or MAC sound card to be used under the emulation.
It is sufficient that you connect your computer to AMINET and download from this the latest version of the program, typing "ahi" into the SEARCH TOOL.
One of the few programs that don not run under WinUAE is Capital Punishment, taken from the AMINET cd number 41.
I must say that several programs mirrored by AMIGA EXPLORER from my AMIGA 1200 to my ASPIRE PC AMIGA virtual partitions did not work very well; I state for example Photogenics and Wordworth; for all these I had to create AMIGA disk images (ADF) to perform a new installation into the emulated AMIGA.
The programs that I have totally mirrored from my AMIGA 1200 hard disk to my ASPIRE PC AMIGA virtual partitions were the C++ compiler StormC and the related texts editor GoldED: at end now I can compile (if there are not errors) and execute C sources that on my AMIGA 1200 with a total of 6 Megs of ram I did not can!
The StormC C++ compiler comes from the AMIGA OS 3.5 DEVELOPER CD 2.1, while the texts editor GoldED comes from the AMINET CD number 32.
I have replicated my actual AMIGA 1200 configurazion into the 31 and 31+ WinUAE configurations and, wonder of wonders, Music-X plays music as nearly great!
I have said nearly because the MIDI connection emulation using the WINDOWS MIDI software musical synthesizer is not completely perfect, sometimes Music-X looses a note; anyway I am satisfied.
I want to inform you also that on the site http://amiga.emucamp.com/ there are a lot of the games that have made AMIGA history; I report to you the ones I have downloaded that are:
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
1000 Miglia car driving simulation on '30
Adventure Construction Set graphics adventures creator
Chuck Yeager Adv. Simulator flight simulator
F/A-18 Interceptor military flight simulator
Manga Hot Numbers mind game
Simcity 2000 city simulator
I have tried all these: of Interceptor I remembered almost all the keys, the remaining I have found in practice (I cannot find unfortunately the keys combination to press to lauch the savage boat for the pilot in the sea in the fourth mission); ha, I have forgotten this: on the 1200 it is a flash!
I have not yet understood what are the keys to use for Chuck Yeager.
Adventure Construction Set is beautiful; fortunately I have the original manual in italian and the diskette (that I have deleted, don't ask me why, please!).
I have never seen before Manga Hot Numbers; it jumps on the eyes that it has been made by AMOS; I like Manga (yes, also sexy, I must admit).
At last I have tried the italian 1000 Miglia; it is beautiful but on the AMIGA 1200 is too fast!
All these must be unzipped (Zip is a popular archivier on PCs like LhA is on the AMIGA), you can find the Unzip command for AMIGA on AMINET via FTP; then search on AMINET for adfblitzer.lha (it is better if you use the SEARCH TOOL) to convert AMIGA emulators games format (ADF) into true AMIGA diskettes; obviously you should have several empty double sided double density diskettes at your disposal (do not use HD diskettes with ADFBlitzer).
SimCity 2000 is another chapter: this wonderful game uses the AGA chipset (the one of the AMIGA of the latest generation, that are the AMIGA 1200 and the AMIGA 4000) and on my AMIGA 1200 it was bit slow, but now that the AMIGA 1200 has an accellerator board it runs fine.
You must unzip it into the position where you want it on your hard disk, seen that it has been zipped as drawer and not as ADF file!
At end you can see my best AMIGA, that is one of my WinUAE configurations: it is powered by the OS 3.5, Directory Opus Magellan II, that are AMIGA commercial programs; it is powered by BlueEyes, Birdie2000, FreeWheel, (this because my pc mouse has the wheel!), MagicMenu (MagicMenu_II.lha), StopMenu, TitleShadow, ToolManager, and VisualPrefs also: you can find all these on AMINET.
Now my (italian) version of StartBar is part of my best workbench as you can see!
There is also an AMINET connection quick launch Magellan startbar above to the right of the bottom buttons.
My best WinUAE emulated AMIGA!
