Indicazione della safety car durante un Gran Premio di Formula 1 Nelle competizioni la safety car o pace car è una vettura stradale convenzionale (anche se spesso di altissime prestazioni) guidata da un membro dell'organizzazione, che viene utilizzata per raggruppare, rallentare o in altro modo controllare il gruppo delle auto in competizione.. La pace car ("auto che dà il passo" in ) è da molti anni presente nelle competizioni americane come la dove la partenza si effettua a vetture lanciate e affiancate, e dove ogni incidente in pista (anche minore) vede un raggruppamento delle vetture..
