. Ebbero origine dall'autoblindo anteguerra Guy, denominata Tank Light Wheeled (carro leggero ruotato) Mk I di cui furono prodotti 101 esemplari entro il mese di ottobre del 1940.

. In quel mese ci si rese conto che gli impianti di produzione Guy sarebbero stati impiegati in pieno dalla produzione di carri leggeri, per cui la produzione di autoblindo venne trasferita al gruppo Rootes, in particolare alla Karrier Motors Limited di Luton.
