. "Nothing remains of the church, " moaned pastor Silvanus, who has just been rescued by navy from Car Nicobar, part of the archipelago which has 572 islands, islets and rocks in the Bay of Bengal.

. He died in 1978 and this year a special statue dedicated to him and a stadium named after him were to open in Car Nicobar.

. Even the guesthouses, which were to keep Andaman and Nicobar Lieutenant Governor Ram Kapse when he would arrive to inaugurate the statue and the stadium, were completely destroyed.

. Those missing are Ajay (35), who works as a teacher in Malaca Senior Secondary School; his wife, Sunita (30), a steno at the Car Nicobar Deputy Commissioner's office; and their children Vaibhav (6) and Anuksha (4).

. From Port Blair, Ajay's younger brother Baiju had gone to Car Nicobar on an Indian Air Force flight in an effort to locate his brother and family, but in vain.

. The sources said major damage was done to the IAF base in Car Nicobar where at least 10 people were dead in the huge Tsunami waves following Seismic movement off coast of Greater Nicobar Island.

. They said the crisis management group was focussing on the fate of nearly 45, 000 people living in an area between Car Nicobar and Greater Nicobar Island was uncertain.

. The communication system in this area was completely destroyed and the only mode of communication was the satellite phone, which was available with the Deputy Commissioner stationed at Car Nicobar Island.
