> June 14, 2006 If (Car of) Tomorrow Never Comes By Dennis Michelsen With Apologies to Garth Brooks If Car of tomorrow never comes Will she know how much we wanted her Did I try in every way to engineer the way Air flows off her spoiler In the immortal words of the Captain from "Cool Hand Luke" when it comes to NASCAR's "Car of Tomorrow" all I can say is, "What we've got here is a failure to communicate!" Several testing sessions have come and gone and teams are no closer to having any clue what the "Car of Tomorrow" will really look like.

July 1st is the typical deadline to submit new cars to NASCAR for approval but that deadline is fast approaching and now it looks as if the "Car of Tomorrow" might never come…at least not on time and on target! Whose great idea was this anyway? Just as Goodyear has done with the tires, it seems NASCAR's new R&D center has over engineered the 'Car of Tomorrow"! At a time when the leading car manufacturers in this country are struggling, does it make sense to take away the identity of the cars? NASCAR fans used to watch a brand win on Sunday and hurry to the car dealers on Monday to buy the car that won! You could tell a Dodge from a Mercury from an Oldsmobile from a Ford and it mattered what your favorite guy drove.

The Cot will not run in 2006, here I'll quote one of the many releases (that all say the same) so there isn't any confusion: QUOTE "NASCAR's developmental Car of Tomorrow will race for the first time in 2007 and is scheduled to be phased into the entire Nextel Cup Series by 2009."
