BMW World - Touring Cars 80s
. In the very first year with the new rules, this car won Helmut Kelleners and Umberto Grano the driver's title in the European Touring Car Championship.. And for the fourth time in 14 years, Dieter Quester won the European Touring Car Championship in 1983 at the wheel of a BMW 635 CSi coupe.. In 1986, for example, Roberto Ravaglia brought home both the European Touring Car Championship and the 24 Hours of Spa at the wheel of this car.. In 1987, FISA, the international motorsport authority, introduced a World Touring Car Championship for the first - and only - time.. In Group A guise, this car developed some 300 bhp and won the European Touring Car Championship, as well as seven national championships in its very first try.. Roberto Ravaglia won the driver's title in the same World Championship and became European Touring Car Champion at the wheel of the BMW M3 in 1988.. Through its versatile concept, it became the car to beat in international rallies, enabling BMW to score the company's first World Rally Championship win in the 1987 Tour de Corse.
BMW World - ADAC Junior Cup
. BMW competes in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) Pictures What exactly are the ETCC cars? The BMW 320i ETCC cars are very similar to those customers can buy from their local dealers, but they have to be homologated in Group N to make them comply with the Super 2000 category in which the BMW 320i is competing.. For the second year the points allocation has been 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for both Drivers' and Manufacturers' Championships.. There is a success ballast system, with the three drivers scoring the most championship points over the two races having 30 kg, 20 kg and 10 kg respectively added to their cars for the next racing weekend.. The top three in the championship also have these same amounts added.. The 2004 FIA European Touring Car Championship was one of great highs and lows for the BMW national teams, but the hard work and dedication from all the teams was worthwhile when at the end of the 20-race season the top championship honours went to the manufacturer and its drivers.
