Ginetta G4 & G12 - A brief history Ginetta Cars Ltd was a unique, British specialist car manufacturer that survived the upheavals of 30 years producing a vast array of limited production sports, racing and road cars - some with such aesthetic qualities that they are comparable to any other sports cars, mass produced or otherwise.. By the time G4 production ceased in 1969, various cars including the G8 Formula 3 racing car, the GlO an exotic powerful 4.7 litre coupe the G11 similar in looks to the GlO but MGB engined had been produced in small numbers, however the mid-engined G12 was made in relatively higher numbers.. The requirement for a fast, economical, inexpensive sports car: a difficult objective had been identified and utilising the experience gained from racing cars was put into the next development the G15, with the 875cc Imp sport engine hung cradle-fashion, at the rear and with its timeless styling, excellent chassis, performance with economy, incredible roadholding and to date continuing success in motorsport the G15 ranks as one of the most popular of specialist cars.

Both cars underwent full type approval testing and were available as kits or factory built cars.. Ginetta had become a respected manufacturer of outstandingly capable sports cars but while Marcos, TVR and Lotus became ever more out of reach to the grass roots enthusiasts they had originally set out to serve, Ginetta preferred to concentrate on innovative and affordable machinery for the true enthusiast.. As well as road going sports cars, the Company produced single seaters.. The G8 and G9 formula 3 cars were great designs but manufacturing difficulties led to the projects being shelved.. Single seater success came with the G17 and G18 cars designed for Formula Ford.. The Company also produced classic sports racing cars like the G12, G16 and G22 as well the awesome G10 which took the racing scene by storm due to the huge performance derived from Ford's 4.7 litre (289 cu in) V8 and was well up to the dynamic task providing 271bhp and giving a top speed in excess of 150mph.
