  • Click Flag for Music "Bugle Boy" In the early days of the war, when factories were concentrating on the production of heavy armour, like tanks, there were very few light reconnaissance or armoured cars available for distribution so some improvisation was required.
  • . The first armoured reconnaissance car supplied to the Corps was a makeshift vehicle called the Beaverette which was based on a Humber car fitted with armour plating and equipped with a machine gun.
  • . After training on these improvised vehicles, the first armoured vehicle used in action by Corps units was the Humber Light Reconnaissance Car or LRC, (Also sometimes referred to as an ARC or Armoured Reconnaissance Car), which had a crew of three, (driver, commander, and gunner/radio operator).
  • . This two-wheel drive car, eventually replaced by a four-wheel drive version, was fitted with a light machine gun, (Bren), a smoke discharger, two Lee Enfield .303 rifles and a No.
  • . While some regiments received Daimlers and others, the bulk of the vehicles used by the 56th Reconnaissance Regiment in the early stages of the war were British Humber light armoured cars.

  • . Now, instead of one big platoon of eleven Universal Carriers, it is broken into patrols of three Carriers each.
  • . All of the carriers deploy as one platoon, but they fight separately.
  • . I hope these tweaks will see every budding Desert Rats commander eager to own a full eight-gun battery of the British Army’s finest regiment, so they can pound the King’s enemies mercilessly! Humber Mk II Armoured Car Squadron The Desert Rats book is packed with heaps of new stuff, the armoured car squadron being a case in point.
  • . A British armoured car squadron has hordes of armoured cars and there are plenty of types to choose from—Marmon Harrington, Humber, Daimler and AEC armoured cars in various marks.
  • . In the desert, that was it, just lots of armoured cars.
  • . Later in Tunisia, when the terrain got denser, armoured car squadrons formed assault platoons, rather a misnomer since their main task was reconnaissance on foot, and later again in Italy, they formed 75mm gun platoons with surplus American M3 75mm GMC tank destroyers.

  • . Not the least of the differences was that the Lynx was designed around Ford's rear engined 4 x 4 armoured car .
  • . ARMOURED CARRIER, 4X4 INDIAN PATTERN Ford Canada produced a large number of it's rear engined armoured car chassis, Ford Part Nos.
  • . These vehicles had a number of roles including armoured personnel carrier and light armoured reconnaissance vehicle.
  • . CAR, ARMOURED, CANADIAN GM MARK 1, FOX 1 The Fox armoured car was made by General Motors of Canada by the simple expedient of marrying the British Humber III armoured car hull to the CMP Model rear engined 4 x 4 armoured car chassis.
  • . This was the same chassis used for the basis of the Australian " Rhino " heavy armoured car.
