About of MOUSETRAP CAR

Mousetrap Car Contest

  • The Mousetrap Car Contest A student checks in a Mousetrap Car Use a standard mousetrap to build the car, usually about 4.5 x 10 centimeters.
  • . The car must have a minimum of three wheels and can be made as long or as short as desired.
  • . The car will be tested on a smooth flat surface.
  • . There will be two runs for each car; the best single performance will be used for final scoring.
  • . All cars must be packed in a rigid container with packing materials.
  • . The formula used to judge the performance of the car will give the best score for the shortest, lightest, and farthest traveling car.

    The Mousetrap Car
  • The World Famous Mousetrap I t's amazing that something as simple as a mousetrap car can ignite a life-long interest in engineering.
  • . SECME students build tiny cars that use a string to convert the spring's uncoiling energy into axle/wheel rotation.

    Mouse-Trap Car
  • Instructions to Build a Mouse-Trap Car Introduction The energy for a mouse-trap powered cars is stored in the mouse trap spring and it drives a wheel by some arrangement such as a string connected from the trap's jaws.
  • . There was a competition among the mechanical engineers at my University to build a mouse trap car that could travel the furthest.
  • . There are endless variations of designs for mouse-trap cars.
  • . If you do want to see some record breakers try Mike Flamino and Kevin McHale's Ultimate Mouse Trap Car Home Page .
  • . Actually, I don't think it really is the ultimate mouse trap car but it has a cute animated gif of a hopping mouse.
  • . The mouse-trap car is complete! To use it start by raising the jaw of the mouse trap slightly.
  • . When the trap jaws have been fully opened put the mouse trap car on the ground and release it.

    Mousetrap Car Contest: Senior
  • EVENT: MOUSETRAP CAR CONTEST LEVEL: SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TYPE OF CONTEST: TEAM COMPOSITION OF TEAM: 2 STUDENTS PER TEAM NUMBER OF TEAMS: 3 TEAMS PER CENTER OVERVIEW: To build a car, powered by a standard size mousetrap, which will travel the longest distance up a 30 degree incline.
  • . RULES: The Mousetrap car must be initially powered by the Mousetrap mechanism The initial energy may be transferred to another device ONLY if that device does not produce energy by itself.
  • . CO2 cartridge, battery, etc.) The mousetrap must be permanently mounted to the chassis.
  • . Each car will use ONLY one standard size mousetrap.
  • . The distance that a car travels will be measured to the point where the car leaves the designated track area from the starting line to the wheel closest to the starting line.
  • . Each Mousetrap Car will be allowed 2 trials.
  • . All Mousetrap Cars must be made by students.
  • . Each car must be ready for competition when called.
  • . Each car will be assigned a random number and there will be two rounds of trials.

    Cindy and Amy
  • Cindy and Amy's Mousetrap Car Project Welcome To Our Home Page: All About Us! Hello my name is Cindy Roberson.
  • . These improvements include many new computers! Yea! Object: The object of our lab was to build a car that was powered by a mousetrap.
  • . Procedure: We chose Legos to construct our mousetrap car.
  • . Our completed car was about one foot in length.
  • . To propel our mousetrap we connected the mousetrap to our car with packaging tape.
  • . As we let the mousetrap go, the string unwound from the rear axle, causing the axle to move, and thus moving the rear wheels forward propelling the car.
  • . Our car traveled anywhere from 18 to 27 feet.
  • . This did not work because there was not enough torque on our arm to turn the rear axle of our car.
  • . As we worked on our mousetrap car, we shortened the length causing a lesser inertia that needed to be overcome.
  • . This caused our car to go farther.
  • . What we think makes a good mousetrap car! There are many factors that go into making a good mousetrap car.

    mousetrap cars and me
  • Adam's Mouse Trap Car Where I'm From My name is Adam Zeeb, and I go to Bath High School in Bath, MI.
  • . Contents - Mouse Trap Car MY MOUSE TRAP CAR Current Projects Mouse Trap Cars - I just finished building a kick-ass mousetrap car for my physics class.
  • . PROCEDURE - I built my mousetrap car out of alluminum arrows that I eppoxied together.
  • . The axles were made out of 5/16 inch dowel rod (which fit the inside of my ball bearings.) RESULTS - My mousetrap car went eighty feet.
  • . CONCLUSIONS - The two most important things in making a good mousetrap car are: getting the wheels to turn easily, and getting the wheels on as straight as possible.
  • . The one thing that could have made my mousetrap car better -- If I had bored large holes in the records, the inertia of the wheels would have been greatly reduced, alowing a much longer arm coneected to my mousetrap, which mean a greater overall distance.
  • . PHYSICS OF THE CAR -- 1.
  • . If the wheel has a much larger circumfrence than the axle, the car will go a long ways with a minimum amount of string.

  • . Now FRONTIERS challenges you to put your own design skills to the test! Try your hand at creating and building a "mousetrap car." A mousetrap can make the perfect "motor" for a homemade car.
  • . As the trap closes, the metal bar can be used to pull a string that has been wound around the car's "axle, " propelling the car forward.
  • . Encourage some friends to join in, then hold a contest to see whose car can travel the farthest.
  • . You cannot use more than $5.00 worth of material in the construction of the car.
  • . (maximum $5.00 value) Protective eye gear Tools for constructing car Meter stick (for measuring distances traveled) Video camcorder (optional) WARNING: We strongly recommend wearing protective eye gear when building and launching the mousetrap cars.
  • . Getting Started To get some ideas, take a look at the following sites: A QuickTime movie of a mousetrap car in action.

  • GENERAL OBJECTIVE To construct a car powered by a mousetrap.
  • . The car works when one end of a string is tied to the arm on the mousetrap and the other end is wound around an axle.
  • . As the mousetrap is released it pulls the string off of the axle causing the wheels to turn and making the car move.
  • . PROJECT The objective of this project is to design a Mousetrap Car for maximum DISTANCE and to demonstrate an understanding of the Physics principles behind the design and performance of a Mousetrap Car.  The project consists of 5 phases as follows: - Mousetrap Car Construction - Mousetrap Car Design - Mousetrap Car Performance - Mousetrap Car Physics Analysis - Mousetrap Car Self-Assessment The final grade will be evaluated using the .
  • . All designs must follow the TIMELINE Mousetrap cars should be completed by Friday February 18.
