. Here's a car ferry bring a box car across the river CAR FLOATS Carfloat operations in and around the New York City area formed a large part of day to day operations of the Class-I railroads that served the area.. has provided a Here's some interesting questions and answers: How much floating equipment do the railroads operate? At the beginning of 1941, the railroads of the United States had in service 1, 911 steamboats, tugboats, barges, car floats, ferries and other units of floating equipment.

. Car Floats At least a handful or more car floats were owned and used by the New England Terminal Company, which was the nautical arm of the Housatonic and the New York & New England.. I don't have any pictures but since these floats were used in the NY City area they must have been compatible with car floats used by other NY City railroads as well.. I'd like to find pictures of some transfer car floats that date back to this period.. We are trying to find out if there were any other ferries, barges or car floats besides these that served Wilson Point.. Serving the South end of the module will be several railcar ferries and/or car floats which will interface with the modeled slips.. These ferries and car floats will act as cartridge-based staging for traffic bound for and originating at New York City.

I know of Linden St Frt.. Most interchange traffic that was handled by the car floats was from the stuff that was routed by the B&O, WM and from the more southern reaches of the Reading Company.
