Principia Solar Car Team: Formula Sun Grand Prix 2005 618.374.5290 Solar Car 1 Maybeck Place Elsah, IL 62028 Formula Sun Grand Prix 2005 Team Race Updates (May 14-21 in Topeka, KS) About the race: The Formula Sun Grand Prix is an international closed-course track race for solar cars held each May at Heartland Park Raceway - Race Track in Topeka Kansas.. Although the team did not qualify, we worked on our car, received valuable feedback from inspectors, and interacted with other solar car teams.. We decided to go through mechanical and electrical inspection that afternoon so that we could get early feedback on our car.. Also, at the preliminary qualifier we can see what the inspectors like about all of the cars, and friendships with other teams develop so that we can help each other fix common problems.. Most of Tuesday was spent working on our car.. The car handled the test with grace.. Our plan for the day was to finish the hinging, wire our turn signals, and allow our solar car drivers to practice egress.. We were able to maintain power to the car just long enough to check our turn signals, horn, and rear view camera in the Body & Sizing station, but when a component of the hinging also gave out during our first egress attempt at the Driver station, we decided to pack up and come home.

The name stuck, and the second car also bore the PrISUm name, this time as PrISUm II .. For the 1995 Sunrayce, however, the team decided to take the name for itself, and to give each car a name as individual and unique as the car itself.. PrISUm CYnergy , the 3rd solar car produced by the team, would be the first to carry such a name.. Team PrISUm has been quite successful in the past events that it has competed in, and it is estimated that more than one million people have seen the ISU solar cars at various events, including live appearances, local news media, and national media such as ESPN, and CNN..
