. For about $40, 000, you can own one of the V-6-powered IndyStreet cars, complete and ready to go from the company's assembly facility in DeFuniak Springs, Fla.. His company, Remote Extender Technology, began selling the IndyStreet in kit form to those who wanted to build it themselves.. "Because I wanted these cars out on the road and not half-finished in people's garages, I set up IndyStreet as a separate company to assemble the vehicles for customers, " he said.. With this arrangement, the company is not considered an auto manufacturer, which avoids a lot of red tape -- including having to crash-test the cars and meet federal safety standards.. To the customer, the process is seamless, thanks in part to the company's recruitment of a few dealers to buy the assembled cars and sell them to consumers.. "We use all the Chrysler factory connections and wiring harnesses." The IndyStreet's frame and drive train are assembled first, and the vehicle is tested for 30 minutes on the company's track before the body is put on, Dockery said.
