The Route at the Time of its Abandonment Running from the off-street Viaduct Loop next to the Necropolis, Parliament streetcars trundled south, through Cabbagetown and old Corktown, to loop at Parliament loop just south of King Street.. Parliament had no tripper services to speak of, although cars would run in from Danforth Carhouse via the Danforth Avenue and the Prince Edward Viaduct.. A History of Streetcars on Parliament Parliament is a very old street, with connections to the old Town of York.. Winchester Cars operated from Downtown Toronto via Yonge, Carlton, Parliament and Winchester to a wye at Sumach Street.. Parliament cars were looping downtown via Yonge, Front and Bay and running via Queen, Parliament and Gerrard Streets to a wye at Greenwood Avenue.. Carlton cars bridged the gap between Gerrard and Carlton, as part of its service from Broadview and Gerrard to the Downtown via Gerrard, Parliament, Carlton and Yonge.. In 1918, Parliament cars were renamed 'Queen' and extended west of the downtown core to Roncesvalles.

. The trolley museum is new and occupies the former powerhouse at the site, it has an excellent children's area, a wonderful cutout display in a Birney car, and several streetcars and interurbans.. We board the steam train, #2317 with five former Lackawanna and Jersey Central commuter cars, and depart on time at 1500 hours.. Only one car is actually powered, three cars are trailers, I note them to be quite slippery on wet rails on several occurrences (it does rain a lot in London).. Lebanon is a welcoming and pleasant country, in spite of still showing many scars from the war.. No one else seems to pay any attention, I switch cars at a stop.. Our inbound train is eight cars (two four car sets) and the parade pf passing trains in both directions is impressive.. The electric mainline trainset is impressive'power car with wedge nose, seven coaches, restaurant car and two first class cars, cab control / baggage car.. Housed inside the former locomotive works, it is well laid out and sparkling clean with locomotives and cars polished and shining.

Since June of 1955 when the Glendale-Burbank rail line was abandoned, those cars have stood silently in the dank and virtually unused subway tunnel. Today, the only activity in the tunnel and at the former five track terminal under Hill Street Station is made by the State of California, which uses the underground space to store impounded autos. (In a city which is strangling from lack of adequate mass rapid transportation, one ponders sardonically at the ironic use of this mass transit facility--a crypt for space-consuming vehicles which pollute our air and congest our streets.--Ed.) In June 1958 the PCCs were lined up in the following order, reading inbound from the mouth of the tunnel: 5006, 5004, 5023, 5003, 5028, 5022, 5002, 5013, 5009, 5027, 5025, 5020, 5010, 5008, 5000, 5016, 5012, 5001, 5007, 5014, 5017, 5005, 5021, 5011, 5024, 5018, 5015, 5029, 5019, and 5026.

Our pride in joy is Toronto Railway Company 327 a single truck open bencher dating to 1893 we run it everyday and it's a handbrake car to boot, we also have three 1917 wood body closed Preston Car Shop cars from the Toronto Civic Railway system two were converted to rail grinders which is how we've left them the other #55 we restored back to it's DE passenger former glory it's also a handbrake car and it's big and heavy!!!
