The short history of the Terme of Tabiano.
The properties curative of the water of Tabiano, they were known to the
habitants
of the place already in the 600's, when they were employed for the treatment of
the wounds, in animals, but was only at about that were tested on man in illness
of
the skin with extra ordinaries results. In 1813 were published the fist
chemical-.physical
analysis of the water of Tabiano together with dissertation on their medical
employment
from the Parmesan doctor J. Bocchi.
The real history sanitary of Tabiano begins nevertheless about 30 years much
later with
the opening of a building of baths from the united hospitals of Fidenza, at that
moment
Borgo San Donnino, the duchess Maria Luigia gave as a present the mineral source.
Building of baths - 1850
The treatments practised were baths and drinks and sanitary director was Lorenzo
Berzieri.
Around the 1910, under the sanitary direction of Emilio Respighi, eminent
dermatologist,
it was modernised the thermal establishment with a model "liberty" building.
Height years
later the all property of the Thermae (establishment and four hotels) was bought
by the
council of Milan, which assigned the management to the pious Istituto Santa
Corona. It
started in this period the big attention towards the paediatric population, and
the study of
the infantile pathologies which will characterize later on the Thermae.
Building of baths - 1910
In the 1934 the Thermae, in phase of decline also for the major attractive
capacity from
the neighbour Salsomaggiore, were bought by the council of Salsomaggiore.
For merit of at that time director Teresio Rogate, there was a restarting of
clinical and epidemiological studies on the effects of the water especially in
the bronchial asthma,
taking back the scientific and specialist interest of the time to Tabiano. In
the following
thirties years, further a renewal of the hydrologic culture, began the fruition
of the treatment
by means of the mutual assistance which brought a notable increase of the arrivals to Tabiano.
It began at that time the thermal rehabilitative sector with the respiratory
physiotherapy and after
the logopedic re-education.
Under the sanitary direction of Giovanni Moruzzi in the fifties years it was
before perforated the Arvé well, for the insufficiency of the Pergoli well, and
later on was inaugurated the new thermal
Establishment (1959) amplified after 4 years.
Building of baths - 1959
The greatest number of patients was reached in1981 when they were about 70,000.
In the latest decades became the point of national reference for which concern
the inhalator therapy and it
remained such also after the crisis of the social thermals occurred at the begging of the 90's, to which Tabiano faced with the continuous improvement of
its own services and the enlargement
and the diversification of the supply, and for instance strengthening the
rehabilitative and dermatologic sector, and above all in the ecstatic field.
Parallelly has kept on the medical-scientific research and the introduction of
new thermal techniques.
In the latest years of the past decade was built the enlargement containing the new paediatric department and the new reception room and from the 2000 the Terme of Tabiano became a s.p.a still of the property of the council of Salsomaggiore Terme.
