Casella di testo: Documents of Bronze Age

The exhibition tends to reconstruct the cultural outline of the communities which settled along the Adriatic coast in the course of the second millenium B.C.

The exhibition makes it possibile to get information of how the district was exploited and its resources, about the strucures of built-up areas, about funeral usages and customs, about the economic and social aspects.

The areas of Gargano and Tavoliere, the fortified built-up areas of Coppa Nevigata, situated on the borders of an ancient lagoon, document a continuity of settlements from the most ancient stages to the late Bronze Age; the Hypogeum of Madonna di Loreto represent one of the most significant funeral collective monuments of the Bronze Age in that area, with the rich sets revealing the emergent social class of the buried people.

The occupation of the Murge is exemplified by the settlements of Madonna del Petto (in an outstanding position along the Ofanto, to control this important way of penetration toward the inland areas) of Giovinazzo, Bari, Monopoli, Egnazia that follow one another at short distances and are characterized by stratified deposits of considerable thickness (from two to four metres, wich evidence the different periods of settlements of Torre Santa Sabina, well known for the great documents, significantly the contacts with the Mycenean environment, both for the typology of the structures and for the imported ceramics found there,

The exhibition ends for Salento, with the settlements of Punta Le Terrare, at the entrance of the natural harbour of Brindisi. It is characterized by very valuable vases. It was an important maritime market open to the Agean navigation.
