ABIGOR
I
really appreciate the Peter’s behaviour on the interview, he’s probably a
bit prickly but at the same time he use to say things that probably others would
avoid just for diplomacy and thank to that spontaneity I’ve been able to
better understand the reasons of the Silenius (Summoning) split from the band,
the different musical taste of the previous Abigor’s incarnation and the
reason of the actual aggressive direction chosen by Peter and the band.
interview by Diego "Ildnachh"
You've
started in 1993, when Emperor where moving their first steps with the
unforgivable split with Enslaved, for the first time your Black Metal was moving
to a moderate symphonic and sombre epic direction, a bit like them...what's your
memory of that period?
Peter- The
entire music, simply all that surrounded Black-Metal, so music as well mental
attitudes where much more dedicated to the dark side. Throughout the
years all lost the values, the real spirit of Black-Metal got lost in my
opinion. Anyways, I've my personal way of life and believe, I do fucking not
care what happened or will happen to Black-Metal, old memories or whatever,
for me it's a way expression, if ABIGOR will split up one day, or if
Black-Metal will be reduced to null and void I have my personal point
of view and there also other way to unleash hell, the rest is not of interest for
me...
In
"Orkblut" you said "we would unite and combine our satanic,
occult, pagan or mythological philosophy to become a strong union...",
after so many years are you still interested in those matters?
Peter- Of
course, but as I said, it all lost the meaning, and if I look upon the
Black-Metal genre of today, the so called "satanic youth", it
isn't worth a shit at all! No one really understand what we once fought for! I
am no conqueror anymore, nor do we want to rebel with ABIGOR, we realize views
and thoughts through Black-Metal, no matter if anyone accept/understand it or
not.
In "Apokalypse" you showed to be strongly influenced by the harsh, primitive side of black metal, don't you think that the actual digital evolution is a bit destroying that feeling, is it simple today to record something like that?
Peter-
No. Things change and development is necessary, why wasting too much thoughts on
the old times...?!
Witch
were the reason of the Silenius departure and what do you think of Summoning?
Peter-
He lost the interest in ABIGOR at this time, Channeling was a too complex and
strange album for him, so he decided to leave the band. SUMMONING is just some
fucking boring fantasy metal, not my coup of tea at all.
What's
for you the better Abigor album?
Peter- Hard to say, I enjoy Apokalpyse to most because of it's extremity
...That time a lot of Norwegian band said to be influenced by the darker side of their Country's nature, thinking do Abigor do you admit the same?
Peter- Austria have a great nature, but I don't see it as influence for ABIGOR, it might influence me at my personal views but not for the compositions of my musical work.
In a mini-cd you've done some thrash cover, a usual thing for black metal bands of the early '90, but don't you feel the Abigor's atmosphere to be too distant from this genre?
Peter-
Of course,
but I still like those old thrash stuff and I am still very into SLAYER,
METALLICA, SABBAT, CARNIVOR and shit like that.
What
are you going to do with Abigor in the future?
Peter- The next release will be a Split-7" with BELPHEGOR, and a new album, entitled "The Dead White Moonlight Songs" is planned to be recorded in mid 2003
Are
you involved in other musical projects?
Peter-
I am also involved with HELLBOUND. The Split-CD HELLBOUND / AMESTIGON is out now
through MILLENIUM METAL MUSIC. HELLBOUND is some harsh Black-Metal, very driving
with untypical elements... HELLBOUND is no project, it's another individual band
I am the 2nd guitarist of. (http://www.infernalhorde.com/hellbound)
You
have always be a studio-band, this is a thing that I totally respect as choice
because sometimes black metal is a bit difficult to express in the right mood on
the stage, have you ever thought to do a live performance and if not what are
the reasons?
Peter- There was one
exclusive gig planned in summer 2002, but because of an accident we couldn't
play there...
A question about your music preferences, what do
you listen in those days and what do you think of the Emperor's carrier and
split?
Peter- 1st. I don't
care about EMPEROR carrier, and their split. I like all their releases,
especially their last 2 albums are great.
The Austrian scene seem to be very oriented to a strong atmospheric mood,
very majestic and full of mysticism, do you feel that to be an important element
for Abigor?
Peter- No fucking
way!! In Austria no band really cares about the other in my opinion, so I guess
that's what makes the Austrian scene unique...
