NARGAROTH

Nargaroth is the most important name for the Germanic black scene, the band started in 1991 influenced by the new-borning evilness of the Norwegian scene. The ‘93 “Herbstleyd” demo is a Burzumish inspired type of black metal, sorrowful, dark and evil, with a great attention to the depressive, and cold feeling. The demo is the starting point for a late ‘98 release, the “Herbstleyd” (Vote 8.5) album. Nargaroth’s music didn’t changed so much, again the same evil and depressive feeling was the dominant factor, in a dark vision of a forlorn mysterious black power hidden in the fog of a sombre forest. The true spirit of black metal is reincarnated in a band that, also thanks to the big names split, have reached a very important position in the reign of total darkness.
The 2000 “Amarok” cd is more or less a re-recording group of songs from the early demos, with an awesome Burzum’s cover, and I will not judge that with a vote, but I can say that it’s a release for the true fans. After a short period came-out “Black Metal Ist Krig” (Vote 6.5) a strange album for my taste, a sort of dedication to the early Norwegian black metal scene with three very good songs, and some others that I don’t take too seriously, one is a cover songs from the Immortal’s masterpiece “Pure Holocaust” done without the same incredible feeling that the original one have. “Black…” hasn’t the same feeling and credibility of the monumental “Herbstleyd”, there are some tracks that I can’t seriously care.

Fortunately Nargaroth came-back with a wonderful release in 2002, a long time mcd titled “Rasluka pt. II” (Vote 8.5) is the example of how serious and excellent can be the Nargharoth performing of its typical true black metal. A sad melody opens a majestic storm of black riffs, with a cold, harsh, but not un-professional, recording. There’s a depressive aura behind the curtains of obscurity, and this is the most important trademark for the Germanic band.
The forlorn epic spirit is deformed in a darker veil of sadness, representing the most sombre side of that emotion, like the best European black metal examples were able to do, glory in solitude, in coldness.
