ARGAR - CWMN ANNWN
This is obviously a
late review but it was necessary to give an exposition to this incredible
symphonic black metal albums, too late for Argar, the commercial wave of Black
Metal is gone so that they cannot be accused to aim to a commercial success, but
it's clear after a minute of "Cwmn Annwn" that their music is
underground and absolutely true to the bone! The night-spirit of the dark-woods,
in the past glorified by the superb Norwegian wave, is brought back like "the
return of darkness and evil...". So many times I've listened to so many
boring bands searching for the band that was following the right path and here
come a surprise from the Spanish land.
The first Argar's album was very poor and boring, weak symphonic black metal,
with no sharpness and very few effective moments, "Cwmn..." is totally
different.
The voice is cruel, distorted to an inhuman effect, the keyboards play an
excellent role, giving a deep, cool, magical, sombre feeling. The songs have a
mature structure, very good extreme melodies and the production is sharp and raw
to give the right touch to the evil obscure picture. There isn't any escape to
the execution of every human hope, death reigns and Argar's are summoning
ancient forces, the un-died essence and the artwork is totally into the music,
without the presence of the feeble light, as black metal should be. Personally I
also like to listen to other experimental acts but if black metal should be that
every new element is un-necessary, the dark reign lives on!
