BAPTISM - THE BEHERIAL MIDNIGHT

Baptism play raw Black Metal played with a strong thrash-back inspiration, clearly audible on the some guitar riffs and on the drum parts and I have to admit that the result is very good. The recording, very dirty and underground is full of feeling, night-time evocative power, the greater thing of that band is to transport the ’80 spirit in a ’90 black metal direction, the Northern Heritage (label) mark is another time a sign of quality in a extreme black vision. The better elements of the old-school thrash inspired music are melted in a darker path, completely losing their rock attitude for a more sombre direction. Surely Baptism don’t stand cult Northern Heritage acts like Clandestine Blaze and Deathspell Omega but they deserve my respect and if only they will be able to keep a continuity for the overall next album they will do a great step on the other side.
