DARK FORTRESS - Profane Genocidal Creations
Red Stream Records
Do
you remember the debut album of this unknown German extreme metal band? "Tales
From Eternal Dusk" was a big surprise because for the first time we heard
the Dissection-sound again! That album was deeply influenced by the four Swedish
demons, not original sound but great music even if there was a lack of
originality. This second album is a strange album. "Profane Genocidial
Creations" is quite different from the debut, sometimes there is a new
kind of songwriting and now Dark Fortress doesn't look like to Dissection at
100%. First half album is very good: "Defiance Of Death" sounds like
the typical swedish deathblack metal style as Lord Belial loves playing; then we
have also a claen vocal, very epic and full of pathos that reminds me the great
debut mini cd of french black metal band Seth.
In
the following song "Passage To Ertinction" Dark Fortress make a small
use of keyboards but this use is well done and we notice the big Diseection
influence again; in this song we hear also a female vocal but it is bad put into
the atmosphere of the music. "In Morte Aeternitas" begins with a great
acoustic moment, the rhythm is slow and speed, powerful and obscure, a typical
Dark Fortress song in which many kind of death-black swedish metal traditions
are linked together. "Through Ages Of War" isn't an original song but
it is very catchy. In "Warlord (Face The Angel Of Pestilence)" there
are slow acoustic parts above a killer speed black metal riff, very cold, as the
riffs that we found into the debut "...Nord" of Setherial! Other song
aren't so good but definitively we can say that Dark Fortress confirm the good
status that they obtained with heir great debut. "Profane Genocidal
Creations" is not so bad, is a Swedish death/black metal album and I really
don't understand the use of face-painting in a band like Dark Fortress. Good
music for good ears.
