can’t believe that Fenriz and co. could be able to express a so funny release,
yes "Plague..." was really a boring and almost insignificant album but
this one is probably the final epitaph.
In my opinion Darkthrone have to turn back from where they have come, the ashes...and
if you ask me why the answer is very simple: they have nothing in common with
the majestic, magic that was created by their well known masterpieces, not only
a moment of this "Hate Them" is comparable to the sombre vortex of
created in the past by this Norwegian legend. It doesn’t mean nothing if they
proclaim to be conservative, it’s worst because they have crystallized the
mediocrity of their previous poor release, the songs are so insignificant,
without a shadow of mood and atmosphere. After all this work is nothing but an
exercise of badly inspired ’80 Black Metal, nothing will be the same
again"nothing".

What's black metal? This is the first question that you'll try to answer after the listening of the last album of the fathers of black metal music: Darkthrone. Well, this 'Hate Them' is sometimes raw, primitive, 'true' and so on, but if you listen to it carefully you'll understand the lack of this music: soul! The previous album of Darkthrone 'Plaguewielder' was the worst album of the band, this last one is better but we are far away from the other releases of the black metal emperors. Darkthrone follow the new trendy living in Moonfog's house: rock 'n black metal. Here there no witness of early raw death metal mixed with the primitime black metal, it seems rock 'n black palyed without convinction. Darkthrone maybe play only for the sense of playing something for fun, not with angry. This is not a commercial album but there's the sensation that Darkthrone wanted to record a raw black metal album but that it has to sound well-done. The way to compose riff is very simple, maybe too much. Only the voice of Nocturno Culto is always fucking great, but a good performance on vocals doesn't give us a good album! Darkthrone should stop their production because it seems very difficult that in the future they will be able to return to compose excellent music as the songs included in their early masterpieces. Darkthrone today are a band without a soul.
