FORGOTTEN TOMB - SONGS TO LEAVE

In those days something special is happening, a superb label like Selbstmord is giving voice to a group of unique bands, a death squadron of nihilist, depressive, melancholic music, totally sick, cold as stone. If the core of the well-known historical bands are totally losing contact with the extreme, inhuman, anguish attitude of the "Dawn of the black heart" era there are bands like Craft, Shining and this incredible Italian act who are bringing back the winds of damnation. The term salvation is abhorred, "pain in solitude and pleasure in pain" can be something that can fit to this creation of depressive, sad, vision. The first and second songs are a travel very near to the total annihilation of every solar form of life in man, a deadly insight, a chain that blind every expectation. World is becoming old and Forgotten Tomb are a voice of this fall, decline, saw by a different perspective, fuck off to the beer-idiots head-fucking-bangers that use to simplify black-metal to another normal form of music, in that music I can hear a real involvement, something from the border of mankind, a place near the other side. Another time isn’t for me a secret that this kind of serious intellectual kind of emotion is part of this kind of music, these are concepts that have always be part of this movement, but for years they have been put apart by the clamour of the commercial success, probably this is the right moment for a silent rebellion. Apart from Aborym who sound very different (post-black metal in my mind), this is one of the few Italian surprises.
Musically it’s a not-so fast black metal with doomish rhythms, apart from one faster song, but after all it’s a very coherent album but I don’t know how it will be listened outside from the real core of this deep underworld, but for me it’s surely better to stay away from mediocrity...in our grave.
