GORGOROTH - TWILIGHT OF THE IDOLS

I was strongly waiting for their come-back and finally "Twilight of the Idols" is another chapter of the long story of this hateful Norwegian act that rises again the flag like a cold blade. Gaahl is finally out of Jail and in spite of the fact that he’s not so creative as on "Incipit…" is performance is far than good, capable to evoke of the same insane matter. Something is obviously changed if compared to the first three-four releases, the death metal influence is now part of the riffing in a clear way in some moments and also the sound have some lower tuning there and there. It’s strange now how their sound have acquired a more influent heaviness and deepness without leaving apart the traditional coldness of their well-known style. If I have to compare "Twilight of the Idols" to "Incipit Satan" it’s clear how the song are more primitive and a bit in the vein of "Pentagram" but with a more deathish approach. Top songs are in my view the opener "Procreating Satan" that blow-off the listener with a very massive and monumental assault and the more northern inspired "Of Ice and Movement". The second song is the one where the new elements are dominant and probably the worst one. All in all "Twilight" is another very good album but "Under the Sign", "Destroyer" for example are far better in my ears, at last this one is better of the sometimes confused "Incipit.."
