It
was a surprise for me the signing of this well known Italian Black Metal band by
the experimental label Code 666, because it wasn’t a secret the very
traditionalistic idea of Black Metal that this band was proclaiming there and
there..I will pass away all their statements about the Norwegian scene because
you can judge by yourself if this was has meant something or not in the history
of Black Metal. I’m there to give an honest evaluation of this album and I
have to admit that this one is far better than the previous but still not at the
same level of the foreign Swedish acts, also I prefer Italian Mater Tenebra
“Sangue”. The problem is that they have tried to sound brutal heavy and
melodic taking influences from the Swedish death-black music, the result is to a
first listening not too bad but it lacks of the black mood that is the essence
of this music, the lines of the riffing are sometimes too ordinary for my taste,
there isn’t the cold and deep involvement but everything is too much in the
surface. The recording is also responsible of this a bit “plastic” result,
it’s obvious on the drums sound, that suffer an absence of the right
reverberation.
The songs flow away with no visible sign and all in all the album is sadly nothing but fair, I was hoping much more by the promotional songs that was added in the label compilation, probably they play a genre that have already told almost everything in 3-4 albums. Some people think that it’s sufficient to put together some riffs and fast drum rhythms to give the right rush, there are some other aspects that are probably the most important, for sure…
