Great,
great, great....finally a killer album! Black metal devoted to war, an epic aura
above a bloody battlefield, these are Hegemon in their little masterpiece
"By This, I Conquer". Nine long songs that show the grim soul of
the french band. Yes, France today has one of the better underground scenes of
Europe. Many french bands are characterized by giving an epic touch to
their approach to the music. Well, Hegemon aren't so epic or 'pagan' as
Himinbjorg for example, they prefer to play faster and rawer than Himinbjorg;
Hegemon are more oriented to a cross between death and black metal. The
production is finally good and it supports very well the violence of the music
of this cd! There are also some acoustic passages: short but really intensive.
It sad that today there are few bands that have the same musical attitude like
Hegemon, they play just to kick you with their evil music. Blood will flow,
flags will fall, brave heart soldiers will win, gods will choose the winners:
these are the visions that you can imagine listening to this "By This, I
Conquer". During some passages Hegemon show us also good technical skills,
so they are a mature band that plays mature music. Why thay don't have the
maximum of rate? Well, songs are very long and sometimes, even if music
transport us into epic visions of war, they are too much similar. The second
part isn't so spectacular like the first one of the cd. Not all riffs are made
at the best of the possibilities of the band, but this cd remains a good
business for all those who loves true evil music.
