HIMINBJORG-GOLDEN AGE

Adipocere Records

The French are back with a album more black metal oriented than their mini cd and the third album, a work that can’t be defined back to the roots because a particular element for this band was from the beginning the influx of an epic folk celtic music. The thing that they have done is to melt those influences on the metal riffs but still I prefer their past way of playing, today the music of “Golden Age” is too homogeneous without graduations and shadings. Another problem is the drums recording that seems to be something totally abstract from the overall context, too triggered, or wrongly triggered. After the first two songs I can’t follow the others with the same attention and at the end it’s like a liberation. Himinbjorg are keep playing but I really don’t know if it’s more a continuity or something deeper, apart from the past that I fully respect the music of this band is becoming something sterile. My idea of pagan Metal is more mystic, in the vein of their early works , nothing to do with this a bit anonymous involution of “Golden Age”.
