IMMORTAL - SONS OF NORTHERN DARKNESS

There are no doubts that there’s no comparison with historical albums as Pure Holocaust or Battles in the North, but why should we consider this Sons of Northern Darkness a bad album? Yes, it’s the first Immortal opus for a big label (maybe too big for a black metal band...) as Nuclear Blast, but if we take apart these considerations, we can feel it of some interest. There are in fact some tracks, as for example the title track, which spread the same cold feelings of the past but in a different way. And maybe this is the key to understand this album...Forget the death metal influences of the previous one, Immortal come back to the roots of their music, but loosing the mad speed which characterized the past releases, but achieving a new (evil?) skin as expressed in cold tracks as "Antartica" or "Sons of Northern Darkness". Try in fact to listen to the title track and tell me if you will be not captured by its cold and evil feelings...It’s really a journey in darkness, in a cold and dark place where darkness and light don’t differ, and where maybe our "hero" have finally found their place"A good album but not for old blackster"
