LUNARIS - ...The Infinite

Elitist Records 2002

This isn’t a newcomer band, but a side project of the Norwegian Prog-Metal Legend Spiral Architect, they play aggressive and avantguardistic Progressive Black Metal, Sophisticated but with a good feeling, performed amazingly. With this formula Lunaris have released their first album under Elitist, the quality of the sound-recording is not so great, but Clear and dry, absolutely perfect for this type of music, fair to appreciate better the musical capacities, "In the Eyes of Heretic" starts and gives the way to the album, delighting with its refinement the riffing and the vocal impact of Balfiori (vocals), with his old and wild style performing really striked!.
"Arise" blends some elements in Death Metal united to the tangled musical web conception of the band, music is the art to try and risk to create something innovative and fresh. Symphonic meets Progressive on "...of the one", here the influences of the "Spiral" is distinguishing and I think laudable. A sinister sample opens "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum", a supreme keyboard work supported by a really great guitar structure and fantastic drums parts of Asgeir Mickelson.

Simply smashing and cold is "Mother of Storms", this song is a new way to mean Black Metal, for its intelligence to combine feeling and instrumental technique. "Primal constriction" is one of the best tracks on "...This Infinite", a lot of dark energy covers the geometric patterns giving freshness and originality. The conclusive "Soulcrash" close worthy this jewel of inspiration and science in the extreme metal panorama! An ode goes to these pioneers of intellectual music!
