MASSEMORD – OBSCURA SYMPHONIA

This band is becoming quite productive in this period, after listening to the first two song my idea was very different by this one of today. In fact they’re very different from the rest, to raw and unexpressive, just done to try to impress the listener to the opening but with fair results. The harsh aggression by itself is not suitable and this become more and more clear after the first nostalgic Norwegian Black Metal songs are unleashed, the atmosphere reach like a deja-vu, a wind blowing, calling with a persuasive voice. They’re surely not doing anything new but they do that very well, a personal melting of influences, passing from the darker Burzum to the most nature influenced one, the well-known Darkthrone Transilvanian Hunger era riffs and a piece of the rawest Dimmu Borgir, back to “For All Tid”, ok a good outfit, no matter what, but if you’re a newcomer better go back to the history, differently if you still love this sound and attitude to the darker side of the northern hemisphere this can be a tear to live. One or two songs are some underground hits to be listened, it’s great how they understand Black Metal in a so expressive retro way.  Apart from the first two chapters the rest is to a very high level and if the debut could be a lucky strike this one cannot be a case.
