My Dying Bride – Songs of Darkness, Words of Light

Peaceville – Masterpiece Distribution

If the previous "The Dreadful Hours" was like a "twilight" album for its melancholic and romantic mood, the new album signs the downfall of night, there’s no place for romance or light, every past hope has merely disappeared. I think that this short description figures out very well the essence of this album. Musically speaking the sound is a sort of "back to the roots", it’s more raw and straight, a mixture of "Dreadful Hours", "The light at the End of the World" and maybe a bit of "Turn Loose the Swans" (sorry but no violins...), definitely more doom than the previous, but uncapable to capture completely the listener, so my opinion is that "Songs of Darkness, Words of Light" is a good album but far to be considered a masterpiece or a "must have" for what concerns My Dying Bride.
