MYRKSKOG - SUPERIOIR MASSACRE
I can’t say to be the biggest
fun of brutal death metal but I immediately understand if a band have the class
and variety of Morbid Angel or is simply another straight in your face assault
without maturity. I don’t hear too much of the Myrkskog debut but some were
saying that they were an interesting band, a sort of death-black mix like the
Zyklon massacre and they were also moving through a modern and fresh dimension
but there’s no sign of that evolution in that album. Fortunately there are
some more "meditated" and varied moments compared to other death metal
acts that I’ve heard, there are some similar riffs but a problem is sometimes
a too low recording on the guitars, those are able to express interesting things
but they’re are too covered by the drums on the mix. They really recall the
faster Morbid Angel style and they’re totally able to match that kind of music
but I think that there are some bigger ideas inside that band that haven’t
been fully exposed, for example I haven’t really liked the vocals, singed in a
too standard death metal.
If you love traditional death metal played with skill and authority "Superior
Massacre" is something you can handle with, surely better of some
well-known names.
