NEBEL - Hymns Of Destruction

Adipocere Records

I’ve listened very carefully this album, and the first time I was not very impressed, but listening time by time this album caught my attention more and more...this guys from France are able to play a straight and relatively simple black metal with very good  guitar riffs and together with a bit particular voice they can recreate a very good atmosphere though the whole album, to be more accurate I can describe their style of playing black metal like a mixture of early Marduk and a bit of old Immortal stuff. The production is good for a raw style but  it’s possible to hear clearly all the instruments at the same time, the only thing that after listening to it I found a bit boring is the way that the drums are played"always the same"like Darkthrone’s Transilvanian Hunger, but it’s not a bad thing, it gives a claustrophobic and suffocating touch to the album, I think that this aspect falls under the label "De gustibus..."
Definitely is a good album, very well played and with a good atmosphere with no particular highlights...and nowadays these qualities are not crap, I hope to hear something more of Nebel in the near future, maybe something with a bit more "personal.. touch"however it’s another  sign that France have good bands...luckily in France there isn’t only the crap that the Osmose tries to spread...
