The phantom is haunting , a dark shadow from the past is evoked by a band that already deserve the cult status, this is breath of genuine obscurity, something that keep back the early majesty of the "glory days", they show to dedicate the album to the Scandinavian ‘early 90 scene and I can point them as one of the superb follower of this sombre wave. The singer Corven show to be strongly inspired by the Abbath’s style but in the underground way, keeping the cruel atmosphere of the underground approach...with an excellent result, so cold.
The
recording is very harsh, the guitars are audible like a sharpen sword that cut
every sacred flesh, merciless. I really appreciate that their choice to play a
very old style but not chaotic, because the songs that have a fast but not
straight-ahead attitude are full of grimness, showing another time how those
tempos could be dangerous and killer! There are moments where they accelerate
with a strong result and other where they search to go a bit deeper with the
atmosphere, to open horizons of fear. Listen for example to the nightmare tunes
of songs like the title-track or in the excellent "Sigillum Sanctum
Lycantropia", where bass is played in a very gloomy way to recreate a
deathlike mood, like a presence emerges from the ashes, touching the listener
with its unsafe essence.
A mention goes to the video, that’s very monumental, showing to be a valuable
extra.
In
"Shadow from the Past" the underground side of Scandinavian darkness
is amplified to create another endless eclipse....smell the essence of true
dungeons...
