VIA MISTICA - Testamentum

Metal Mind Records

It’s sometime that I don’t hear to gothic doom metal because after some very well-known album of Tristania, The Sins of Thy Beloved and the famous Theatre of Tragedy the overall quality of the releases of this genre came down boring the crowd the previously was listening to their melancholic songs. The rush of Gothic trend was very short and now today after a sort of overground silence this polish band start back from where the masters left their path. Testamentum has a very evocative cover and works fine if compared to this genre, personally my taste goes far beyond and after the first wave of this genre almost all have been already told. One things that can be avoided is the prolixity of some songs but after all the doom roots are part of their background and the heavy melodic lines aren’t so bad. Starting from the ashes of a genre almost left alone to begin in the best way is to look back into time but the only way for this band to really capture my attention is to show a special motivation….they’re in the right way. There’s the well-known mid-soprano female vocals and the typical male vocals, like a flashback to years ago, so that I advice only the fans, the true fans of this gothic doom metal genre, to look at this band and give them a chance.

Ild Vote 3.5/6
