WAR - WE ARE...TOTAL WAR
I know that it’s a
bit too late to review that band but I was listening that incredible opus of
death, destruction and hate after the weak Marduk and Dark Funeral last albums
and it came natural in my mind to compare those albums with the strength of
that apocalyptic storm of evilness. The nihilistic, hellish form of black
metal played by that Swedish band is a fist in the face of the actual weakness
of the Swedish black metal scene, a good listen to that re-release of two past
cd and a mini-cd is enough to realize what Arhiman e Co. and Marduk have lost
through the years. In the War’s creation there’s still the flame of the
primordial diabolical hate, an opus of total misanthropic feelings. The
recording is what I think to be the perfect one, harsh, aggressive and massive
without the almost "plastic" mood of the last Dark Funeral’s
"Diabolus..." and too moderate sound of Marduk’s "La Grande
Danse Macabre".
Listening to those demonic thunders I can hear a sort of accelerated version
of the Von’s "Satanic Blood" and this is probably because the
ex-Dark Funeral guitarist and former member "Blackmoon" is part of
the music and if it isn’t enough the other involved guys are It of Abruptum
and All of Ophtalamia There’s a killer grinding devastation and the overall
drummer performance is awesome, another heartless sword in the hand of the
enemy of mankind. Here become the siege, some very moderate death and thrash
elements are transformed and almost hidden by the total-holocaust black metal
mood of the music...in an eternal way to the cemetery gates!
