WATAIN - CASUS LUCIFERI

Drakkar

The hordes are back, the morbid and anguish face of Black Metal always prevail at the end. This is a Swedish band that have nothing of the weak points that traditionally is part of this country extreme metal background, this because they’re not one of those common stereotypes but a real danger and cancer in the earth of lies. Casus Luciferi is a carnal album, something that is done to give a picture of this body cell that is around us, a morbid essence of the age of oblivion, obsession.

This is a sign of a man submitted by the poisoned gift of the serpent, a terrestrial force, a pressure greater than every spiritual will. Listen to "Casus Luciferi" is a strange experience, in some way it can remind to the darker side of the old-style Swedish Black Metal of the original Marduk "Dark Endless" but in another way it’s some more and more serious. A common blasphemous Black Metal can’t be compared to this unusual and wisely corruption born in the womb of the earthly decadence. The religion of materialism is the most corruptive and powerful strength of the temple, no light from god can more reach us, damnation is the only law. Each song is an hymn to remember to the endless fall, blinded so to vomit each sickest feeling, where all this become art of the finest and corrupted form. After the listening of those final chapter no more energies are still alive only the smell of sulphur infect the land. The opener is an superb mix of aggression, gloomy decadence and a deadly mix of sombre emotions, "Black Devotion" is one of the most impressive morbid songs I’ve ever heard, where anti-cosmic crusade become a step in a bondage of obsessive carnal feelings.

One special mention goes to the recording full of dark pathos but not for sure chaotic, differently everything is well thought to give the necessary emphasis to the superb songs that follow after those already impressive two opening chapters. It’s clear how Watain are Swedish but the typical riffs of this country, they still remain fucking various on the rythms, one of the most varied band in the scene on this topic, is like submerged and suffocated in a hopeless fog, at the end sickness will prevail.
