WOLFEN SOCIETY - Conquer Divine

Wolfen Society alias the musical project of Vincent Crowley (Acheron). Vincent has good musicians into his project: first of all Lord Ahriman coming from the greatest swedish black metal band Dark Funeral and behind the drums we find Kyle Severn coming from the extreme band Incantation. Only four songs for this mini cd produced by House Of Death Records. The cover is in white&black and it is made by Morbid (the italian graphic that already made the artork on 'Diabolis Interium' of Dark Funeral; a simple graphic but essential and aggressive. From the titletrack we notice that Wolfen Society present a concept about war and hatred but the band takes distance from political values. Let's start taking about music: the opener and titletrack is the best song of this mini cd. Raw evil music, aggressive, cold production, a violent fist in your head, a perfect mix between european and american extreme music tradition. "Blood Oath" instead is more oriented to the metal influences with a touch of industrial atmosphere. "Life Is War" maybe is the more interesting song of this release: in the beginning we have a marching rhythm martial and cold, straight to war, a prelude of death in which a mystic keyboards gives an apocalyptic atmosphere to the music. In the second part of the song we find the best riff of "Conquer Divine", a simple but explosive black metal riff stopped by a moment of suspended sounds that creates a great pathos inside the song.
The last song is a cover of Peter Steele "Race War" that Wolfen Society are able to represent under an evil version. A good mini but we wait for something more aggressive and quite original in the future.
