I Information about the
Swedish School in Milan
“Svenska skolan i Milano”, The Swedish School in Milan, was
founded in 1969 in the centre of Milan. In 1986 the school moved to Arese,
north of Milan.
The school is, since 1999, situated in new premises in Garbagnate Milanese,
a small town near Arese and the school is situated about 10 kilometres
north-west of Milan.
The school is open for children who are closely associated with Sweden
but is also open for children from other Scandinavian countries. The language
of instruction is Swedish.
The school is being run as a private school with government grants and
student fees. The principal of the Swedish School of Milan is “Svenska
Kulturföreningen”, the Swedish Culture Association, which ,
in Italy, is registred as an official non-profit association.
The activity of the school has been approved by the local authorities
and has been recognised as a foreign school by the Italian ministry of
education.
The school follows the Swedish curriculum, Lpo-94.
It is often a change for a child to move and to start in a new school
abroad. The Swedish school in Milan helps the children to adjust to the
new social and cultural life in Italy. The Swedish language has a very
important role in the education and grown of the child.
Education in the Swedish mother tongue as well as in English and Italian
is important for the whole education.
The premises of the school are bright and nice. There are three classroms,
a library, a dining room and an office. The school is situated in a housing
area with green surroundings. There is a sports facility not far from
the school.
It is easy to reach the school, as it is only five minutes by car from
the nearest motorway exit. There is a bus- and train station in Garbagnate
Milanese, and Malpensa Airport is situated only 40 kilometres from the
school.
