SHAKESPEARE

Shakespeare was born in this half timbered house in 1564 and died on 23 April 1616.He lived in the 16 century, at the time of Queen Elizabeth I of England-the so called Elizabethan Age-when drama reached its high point.

William Shakespeare is one of  the greatest playwrights the world has ever known.

In London theatres were built and people paid to see professional actors perform new plays.
Shakespeare himself was a good actor, not only an excellent playwright. Shakespeare’s most famous plays are probably the 4 tragedies: HAMLET, MACBETH, OTHELLO and KING LEAR. His tragedy ROMEO AND JULIET is certainly one of the most famous.

 

Shakespeare’s plays have retained their fame over the centuries. His stories are still up-to-date and have inspired over 250 film adaptations and movies, among them Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice, Shakespeare in Love.
