The Center for the Study of the Pathophysiology of Shock is a collaborative research center between the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the Catholic University School of Medicine (UCSC). It is located in beautiful Rome, perched on top of the MonteMario hill overlooking St. Peter's and the Tiber. It is situated within the UCSC Agostino Gemelli University Hospital, in close proximity to the Institute of Clinical Surgery, and is directed by Prof. Marco Castagneto, the chief of transplantation surgery at UCSC.
The Center counts three CNR researchers, ten UCSC researchers, and clerical personnel. Although traditionally centered on metabolic problems in the acutely ill surgical patient, the research activity of the Center has progressively diversified into two further areas: Immunology and Biomathematics.
