1994

Fuselage sides are compleded, as well as some spars. Time to grow another banana boat.

Trying to set the sides in the right place.

(yes, I used birch plywood for them, just because I was unable, at the time, to find mahogany ply, and had to make three scarff joints to each side).

Botton side traverses bein' glued in place.

What will I do with all those big clamps?

I used three formers to keep the sides in the (hopefully) right place: here you can say the first one, as the others two have still to be placed. (They will be placed in the spars position).

Just a sheet of plywood, and the boat will be complete.

Boat closed.

Centre spars are just bein tested for alignment.

An outer spar is clamped on the edge of the table.

While rear sides are kept straight (as per plans),

upper traverses and gussetts are epoxied.

Some spars varnished inside, and ready to be closed.

I was unable to fit the ¼" ply top shelf, so I epoxied two 3/32" sheets.

I believe it's better to insert the shelf when joining the sides.

The bow of the boat.

(That brown stuff is Resorcynol glue: don't use it!)

Drilling spars with THAT drill press is not difficult. However it took two days to drill all those 104 holes!)

(many thanks to Mr.Tieppo)

Centre spars have been aligned, shimmed and epoxied.

(Almost) all holes for undercarriage, control stick and other fittings have been drilled.
