JUNKERS Ju.87D-5 "Stuka"

SOGGETTO
Anche questa volta si tratta di un "animale strano". Uno dei pochi Stuka delle serie più recenti che fecero in tempo ad essere consegnati alla Regia Aeronautica, ma con una storia particolare.
Al momento della resa agli Angloamericani, gli Ju.87D-5 del 121° Gruppo Tuffatori si trovavano in Sardegna, presso l'aeroporto di Chilivani. Pur non essendo in condizioni di poter volare, di essi ne vennero riparati cinque esemplari, che rimasero alle dipendenze del Comando Aeronautica di Sardegna e tre di essi erano ancora operativi al termine del conflitto, l'8 maggio 1945, venendo radiati poco tempo dopo.
Essi vennero prevalentemente adibiti al traino bersagli, pertanto subirono la rimozione dell'armamento e l'installazione di un gancio presso il ruotino di coda, necessario per svolgere questa particolare funzione.

Nel complesso, questo soggetto soddisfava la mia continua ricerca di argomenti originali e insoliti, magari poco apprezzati, come in questo caso, per via delle fisime di chi non usa la Storia per trarre suggerimenti e non ripetere le stesse sciocchezze già fatte da altri, e ancora oggi considera le truppe cobelligeranti come dei veri e propri traditori.
A mio modo di vedere, essi ignorano il fatto che quando anche il re se l'era ormai filata a gambe, ai nostri soldati delle zone ormai occupate dagli angloamericani era rimasto poco da scegliere e nulla da difendere.
Inoltre, nel frattempo, i bombardamenti degli "alleati" avevano già falcidiato decine di migliaia di vittime civili sul territorio nazionale, e solo un caso del destino aveva risparmiato ad una città come Milano lo stesso destino toccato ad Amburgo e Dresda: il fatto che le sue case fossero fatte di cemento e non di legno.
Questa fase del conflitto culminò con il celebre bombardamento del quartiere di San Lorenzo, a Roma, proprio per spingere il governo succeduto a Mussolini a firmare l'atto di resa e convincere le truppe italiane, a torto o a ragione che fosse, che stavano ormai difendendo l'indifendibile.

MODELLO
Lo Stuka D-5 dell'Italeri e' stato montato praticamente da scatola, migliorando solo l'attacco degli ampi alettoni e rimaneggiando i particolari specifici di questi pochi esemplari italiani, come il gancio in coda, mentre tutti gli armamenti, come pure i freni di picchiata, sono stati rimossi in quanto inutilizzati.
La colorazione, in Verde Bottiglia con le superfici inferiori celesti, è pesantemente deteriorata dal sole e dalla salsedine tipiche del teatro d'impiego.
Per le coccarde ho adoperato quelle di un foglio generico Tauromodel, mentre gli emblemi sulla deriva e sull'ogiva, come pure il werknummer sono stati disegnati con Corel Draw e stampati su decal con una stampante Alps.
Mi rammarico solo di non avere sostituito i trasparenti del tettuccio con qualcosa di meglio fatto, poichè quelli del kit ne deturpano decisamente l'aspetto complessivo.

SUBJECT
Again a strange beast: one of the few late version Stukas that entered in service in the Regia Aeronautica, but with a special flavour.
Just as the armistice with Anglo-Americans was signed, the Ju.87D-5 s belonging to the 121th° Gruppo Tuffatori (dive bombers) was based in Sardinia, on the Chilivani airfield.
Although not serviceable, five of them were refurbished and employed by the Sardinian Air Command, and they were still in use on May, 8 1945, being withdrawn in the following months.
They were mainly employed as target tug, so all weapons were removed and a hook was fitted behind the tail wheel, to accomplish that task.

Altogether, this project fulfilled my continuous research for original and unusual subjects, maybe few appreciated, like in this case, by those who, instead of taking History as an useful source of tips to avoid repeating the same mistakes, still nowadays consider the Co-belligerant forces as bare traitors.
In my humble opinion, they ignore that when even the king of Italy was sneaked out, our soldiers located in areas already invaded by the allied forces had few to choose.
Further, by then, tenths of thousands of civilian had been already mown down by area bombing in our main towns, and just a matter of circumstances spared Milan from the same fate reserved to Hamburg or Dresden: Milan's houses were made with concrete, not wood.
This stage of the war culminated in the famous San Lorenzo bombing, in Rome, aimed at forcing to surrender the Italian Government that followed to Mussolini and intended to convince the Italian troops, true or not true doesn't matter, that nothing was then worth to defend.

MODEL
The Italeri Stuka D-5 was built almost out of the box, just improving the wide flaps attachments and reworking the details peculiar to these few Italian examples, for example the tail hook. All armaments and the diving brakes were removed.
The overall Bottle Green, with Azure undersurfaces, is heavily weathered by sun and saltiness typical in that area.
Cockades come from a generic Tauromodel decals sheet while emblems on the tail and on the prop spin, as well as the werknummer have been printed on decal wih Corel Draw and an Alps printer .
I only regeret that I didn't replace the kit transparents with better ones since those included in the kit are very ugly.
