Nel secondo dopoguerra L'Aeronautica Italiana ha basato gran parte delle sue forze su macchine concesse in affitto o gratuitamente dagli Stati Uniti; d'altra parte l'Italia confinava ormai con paesi del Blocco Orientale e non c'era altro mezzo per poter contare sul nostro Paese negli schieramenti imposti dalla Guerra Fredda. Questo esemplare di Thunderjet era infatti basato ad Aviano, a pochi chilometri dal confine Yugoslavo, da cui operava con il 51° Stormo C.B. nel 1956, con capacità di adoperare armamento atomico. After WW2, the Italian A.F. dued most of its strength to aircraft leased or gifted by the United States. On the other hand, Italy bordered on the Eastern Block and there were no other ways to rely on our Country in the alliances imposed by the Cold War. As a matter of fact, this Thunderjet was based at Aviano, just a few kilometers far from the Yugoslavian border, where it operated in 1956 with the 51th Stormo, in the ground attack role, and was capable of delivering atomic weapons.
