The choir has held important concerts in
both Italy and abroad. Concert activity has been supported through the patronageit has
been fortunate in counting on the patronage of the City of
Florence and collaboration with numerous organizations such as the Association San Giovanni di
Dio, AGIMUS, GENESIS, GAMS of Scandicci,
RICERCARE (Island of Elbe), Opera del Duomo (Florence),
Bank of Etruria and Lazio and others.
Some of the choir's more noteworthy performances have been those in the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, Florence (1993) on occasion of the
inauguration of the Inter-religious
Cultural Center "GENESIS"; in the hall of The Last Supper of Ghirlandaio in the convent of Borgognissanti; in
the Basilica of Santa Trinita in Florence, in Santa Maria della Pieve in
Arezzo under the patronage of the Bank of Etruria and Lazio; at the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte, Marciana,
Island of Elbe under the patronage of the association Ricercare; at the Pieve of San
Martino at Sesto Fiorentino, in occasion of the inauguration of the Pieves rosette
done by the artist Venturino Venturi (1995); at the United States consulate, Florence; at
the church of San
Gaetano, Florence in occasion of the reopening after restoration (1996); at the Abbey
of Vallombrosa during summer festivities held by the monks; at the Duomo of Uberlingen in
Germany; at the church of San Martino alla Palma, Scandicci; at the church of Santa Maria
deRicci, Florence; at the church of the Apostles and San Biagio; in the
Medicean room of the Convent of San Salvatore al Monte on occasion of the presentation
of an essay dedicated to the convent; in the "Salone del Cinquecento", Florence
(1997) in occasion of the twinship between Florence and Nazareth. In 1997 they have also
been invited by the Opera
del Duomo to hold a concert commemorating the 700 year anniversary of the laying of
the cornerstone of the complex of Santa Maria del Fiore.
During the summer of 1996,
the choir took part in the series "Le notti dei tesori" (nights of treasures),
organized by the city of Florence, performing in 13 concerts in the Cappellone degli Spagnoli (Museum of Santa Maria Novella).
In the months of August and September
1997, as part of "Firenze Porte Aperte" (Florence-open doors) in the Museum of Santa Maria Novella, they performed four concerts entitled
"The richness of the Gregorian modal tonalities."
On April 22 1999, the choir performed at the
inaugural concert for the new lighting system in the Baptistry of the Churc
of S.Maria del Fiore
in Florence, alternating with the "lectura Dantis" done by actor Albertazzi. The project was a
collaboration of two projects:"Light for
the arts" (ENEL) and "Enlighten" (region of Tuscany).
In the same year on September 15th, the choir performed in the basilica of S. Miniato al Monte in Florence, closing the International Conference
for the World Health Organization.
Viri Galilaei choir has
participated in several important national and international competitions. Of these, the
choir obtained a prestigious 3rd place in the Gregorian section of the 1995 edition of
Guido dArezzo and has also paricipated at the International Festival
"Seghizzi" in Udine.
