fading image's edges

If you feel unfamiliar with terms like color palette , layers palette , tools toolbar , tool options menu , please visit this page.

To create fading effects first you need to know whether those effects being applied against a solid color or a transparent background.

To fade images against a solid color , just open the image in Paint shop pro and then use the materials palette to define a background color.
The background color in the material palette will become a reference color for Psp to fade images against it.
To force a background color in Psp's materials palette just right click on one of the available colors of the colors palette

If you instead want to fade the image against transparency , you must before promote the background layer to a normal layer , this way the layer you're working on becomes "transparent" instead of colored.
To do this just lauch the command layers>promote background layer (or use the layer palette)
Open an image in Paint shop pro

Promote the background to a normal layer to create transparency as explained before.
layers>promote background layer

Now we create a selection
selctions>select all
selections>modify>contract=40pixels
selections>modify>feather=40pixels
selections>invert

Clear the selection
edit>clear (canc)

deselect
selection>select none (ctrl+d)
