Trama e note

 
Lucien, un signorotto di campagna (country nobleman), non riesce ad abituare la mogliettina alla vita di campagna, soprattutto a causa dei suoi modi grezzi. Per acquisire maggior distinzione si reca a Parigi dove si trasforma in un sofisticato signore di città. La raffinatezza tocca vertici talmente alti che riesce a conquistare la sublime Fox Trot (Louise) strappandola al suo spasimante. Sfortunatamente una tale condotta di vita costa e Lucien si ritrova senza un soldo, a parte i suoi vestiti da sera (evening clothes, appunto). Germaine, che l'aveva sposato per convenienza, arriva a Parigi per chiedere il divorzio, ma, consigliata o sobillata da Fox Trot, si riappacifica con lui.
Questo fu la prima pellicola hollywoodiana di Louise (era arrivata in California proprio nel gennaio del 1927 e impiegata nelle riprese prima di trovarsi una sistemazione) e, sebbene fosse pensato per la figura raffinata di Menjou, la Paramount e la critica furono soddisfatti di lei.
Curiosamente, per questo film, Louise abbandona la sua tipica capigliatura per sfoggiare una, comunque deliziosa, selva di riccioli.
